Police in Eldoret have arrested seven suspects linked to fraudulent labor recruitment schemes in the region. Uasin Gishu District Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi said the suspects were arrested in several offices where they operate in the city.
Security teams are still conducting a crackdown to arrest more suspects involved in these scams.
Residents of the region have lost more than sh10 billion to overseas education and overseas job scams. Mwanthi said the arrest followed a public outcry. During the raid, DCI agents found dozens of unsuspecting job seekers still lining up in several offices of the disgruntled agents.
“We will ensure that all those involved in such scams are caught and brought to justice,” said Mwanthi. He added that those arrested have already been processed to appear in court.
Most targeted recruitment agencies are not registered with the National Employment Authority.
