Alcoholisim has been blamed for teacher absenteeism and many drunken teachers have lost their jobs. The Teachers Service Commission read out the Riot Act for alcohol-loving teachers and issued guidelines to curb chronic alcoholisim.
The Commission has taken measures to deal with this problem including sending affected teachers to rehabilitation centers.
Alcohol is primarily blamed for high teacher absenteeism, especially among male teachers.
Although the names of alcoholic teachers have not been listed, the commission says alcohol has an impact on society, families and even individuals. The commission said headmasters should give county directors the names of drunken teachers. After this the teacher will be sent to TSC Headquarters to see the wellness desk.
From there the teacher is sent to bring their relatives, then they are evaluated, after evaluation they will be sent to the rehabilitation center after applying for sick leave of ninety days.
After rehabilitation one is posted to a school. Teachers should note that sick leave is granted to alcoholics only twice, without any changes.
