Dr Julius Jwan, Principal Secretary (PS) for Elementary Education and Basic Education, has stressed the importance of allocating more resources to Day and Sub-County Secondary Schools.
Dr. Jawan said that such a cadre of schools accounts for up to 75% of secondary school students, which means that more resources should be invested in them.
“It is in our interest to empower similar schools to have adequate infrastructure and as you have seen the way we are implementing competency based curriculum (CBC), we do not discriminate between how large and small schools. are,” said PS. ,
He further said that the priority is to ensure that day schools, which serve a large number of students, are well equipped so that students can get what they want in any other school. PS made this comment during yesterday’s commissioning. A new CBC classroom at Simotwet Mixed Day Secondary School in Eldama Ravine, Baringo County.
Dr. Jawan praised the school for setting high standards and said that such schools should be equipped as they serve the bulk of Kenya’s secondary school students.
“We are very pleased that this is coincidentally the first CBC class to be completed in Baringo County,” he said.
Dr. Jawan expressed the government’s gratitude to the Project Oversight Committee, which was led by the Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), the Assistant County Commissioner, the Education Officer and the school leadership.
He then addressed the issue of insecurity in other Baringo sub-counties, including Marigat, assuring that the issue was being addressed by a security docket and would be dealt with appropriately. PS said that the exam will start on time and CBC will proceed as per the plan.
He further stated that the CBC is a conceptual framework for teaching and learning, and expressed hope that the CBC would reach the next level by next year.
Dr. Jawan further said that since around 72 to 75 percent of the learners are enrolled in day schools, it is important to empower the schools to develop adequate fair infrastructure in the CBC project. In addition, day schools have been given the same attention as other popular ‘big’ schools.
He said the priority is to ensure that the day schools which admit up to 75% of the students are also well equipped. The PS also said that the Ministry of Education appreciates the efforts made through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and any other agencies. Willing to support education in small schools.
Dr Julius congratulated the students of Simotwet Secondary School for not engaging in disruptive behavior like arson which has been recently reported in schools.
He urged the candidates appearing for the national examination to have confidence in their abilities as they were taught and prepared.
