The Government of Kenya through the Ministry of Education has issued the 2022-2023 school fee guidelines for all secondary schools in Kenya.
The new school fee structure is in place for all boarding and day schools in Kenya. Fee guidelines are in place for all sub-county, county, additional-county and national schools.
The government of Kenya will continue to offer free day schooling for learners in day schools. Only lunch fee will be charged from these learners.
All learners in public schools receive government subsidy (capitation) of KES. 22,244.00 annually as shown below (in Table 1).
The schools classified as Category A are:
All national schools and additional county schools are located in the following cities: Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Kisumu, Nyeri, Thika and Eldoret Only.

Schools classified as Category B* are other boarding schools including additional county schools located in Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Kisumu, Nyeri, Thika and Eldoret city areas, among others.

Schools classified as special needs are those schools that cater to learners with disabilities such as visual, physical, auditory and mental.
GOK has increased the capitation to KES. 53,807.00 distributed in the fee structure shown in Table 5.
The structure includes the GOK subsidy of KES. 19,053.00 per learner for boarding equipment and stores and a top up grant of 12,510.00 per learner to meet the accessories and any additional personnel requirement.
Schools are advised to follow the fee guidelines given in the rules.
