Students will be at home until April 25, when schools reopen for the first term of the 2022 school year. This is in contrast to previous years when schools were reopened for the first time each January of the new year.
The 2023 academic year is scheduled to begin on April 25, with the first term lasting till July 1.
Leading CBC students will enter their final elementary school year, after which they transfer to junior secondary schools.
The second term will run from July 11 to September 16, while the third term will run from September 26 to November 25.
Professor Charles Ongondo, chief executive of the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), said grade six textbooks have been distributed to schools ahead of the April rollout.
“We are doing all that is necessary to ensure that the books are in the schools when the learners move to the new class. Right now we are on 85 per cent distribution. By the end of next week, we will have completed 100 per cent of the work,” Ongondo said.
He also said that the curriculum design for class six has been sent to the schools for the preparation of the students. Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Chief Executive Nancy Macharia said that the commission has prepared all the teachers for the gradual implementation of CBC.
Ahead of the implementation of Grade Six in May 2022 and Junior Secondary in 2023, the Commission has made necessary arrangements to train teachers to ensure a smooth transition.
