During his speech, a special teacher caught the attention of the harsh-talking Cabinet Secretary, who took the time to praise the tutor for playing a vital role in marking the KCPE exam.
The teacher, identified only as Yusuf, is credited with working till the early morning hours to ensure that the KCPE result was released on time.
“I just remembered that I wanted to recognize a person, Yusuf, stand up so they can see you. Everyone here forgets this young boy called Yusuf.
“The fact that we were able to mark these exams early and on time is the last in the series, so people shouldn’t judge where they are from. Many times he used to sleep at 4.30 am and by 7.30 am he is here. I had identified all my leaders but I will not forget you,” said Magoha
Pro. George Magoha expressed pride in his own performance in both the Ministry of Education and the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), saying he was leaving with his head held high.
Magoha described his statement as “the most serious and important” since joining the ministry three years ago, as he outlined some of his achievements during the release of the 2021 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam results.
“As I prepare to impart a basic education to my successor, whom only God knows, I am proud of my record and confident that the lady or gentleman who follows me will find a comfortable place to proceed. ” CS said.
He said that the KCPE exam is important as it is the final exam to be released under the Jubilee Administration. He said President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration has had a six-year streak of cleanest and flawless national examinations, which has restored the integrity and credibility of the certification system.
Similarly, he said that the KCPE exam results were second to last before fully transitioning to competency-based assessment (CBA) under the competency-based curriculum (CBC).
“Therefore, I am proud and grateful to God and President Uhuru for allowing me to serve the country for the past six years, three as Cabinet Secretary for Education and three as Chairman of the Kenya National Examination Council.
“I can’t take this opportunity to serve lightly and I look forward to putting the icing on the cake over the next few months,” he said.
The CBC is one of the milestones mentioned by CS, who claims that the government has made every effort to ease the transition from the 8-4-4 system.
