Teacher Professional Development (TPD) training at Mount Kenya University has been rescheduled due to low teacher turnup.
The online training of teachers in the institution on TPD ended last week when the introductory module at MKU entered its second session.
Unfortunately, the low number of teachers attending the training forced the university to reschedule the virtual training.
MKU was the first university to start training on TPD. The five-day training of teachers in MKU started from April 4.
This year (2022) the dates have been set from Tuesday to April 23.
Institutions selected to provide TPD training include Mount Kenya University, Riyara University, Kenyatta University and Kenya Institute of Education Management (KEMI).
KEMI is set to start training on Monday next week, with the second session starting from 11 to 14 April 2022.
The management team of KEMI disclosed that it is mandatory under the legal notice number 19/2010 to provide education management training, provide consultancy services and conduct research in education sector including TPD.
Why the low number?
There are several reasons for the low number of teachers attending TPD training.
The first reason is a possible parliamentary recommendation in which the Member of Parliament (MP) calls for an immediate pause to the TPD to allow appropriate stakeholder participation and consultation.
