TSC nationwide transfer exercise started on April 6th in which teachers of both primary and secondary schools will be transferred to different schools in Kenya.
According to Nancy Macharia, CEO, TSC- Teachers Service Commission, the program has been designed to ensure that the teacher-to-student ratio is balanced (staffing) in all schools before the start of the new academic calendar.
Most teachers are now concerned about the massive transfers as TSC works on staffing across the country.
When it comes to teacher transfers, the delocalization program by TSC has been a thorn in the side of teachers. This practice has seen most teachers complain that transfers break up families.
On the other hand, for some teachers these transfers are a big relief for those who are married and who have declared their marital status as TSC has ordered that they should be shifted to the same neighborhood as possible.
To be eligible for transfer,
Teachers must have:
* For a period of not less than three years, or five years for the North Eastern and other regions respectively, from the date of his first appointment, unless otherwise authorized by the Secretary of the Commission.
*Preference should also be given to teachers who have applied and are eligible for transfer.
According to Dr. Macharia, in cases where teachers meet the transfer criteria, TSC will first consider gender balance and teacher safety, where applicable.
