The Ministry of Education, through Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha, has listed a number of things that parents should avoid buying when taking their students to Form One for reporting day.
Most parents have breathed a sigh of relief since Professor Magoha asked all school principals to reduce the list of requirements for admission to Form One admission.
Professor Magoha thinks part of things are unnecessary but what most secondary schools demand from students on the day of admission includes the following:
✓Exercise books
✓Class readers
✓Novels
✓Photocopying papers
✓Foolscaps
✓Atlases
✓mathematical tables.
✓Hockey sticks
✓Pangas.
✓Jembes slashes
✓Handbrushes.et.
Launching the Form One selection at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development on Monday, Professor Magoha said that some of these items unnecessarily increase the cost of Form One admission and should therefore be excluded from the list of requirements.
Accordingly, C.S. Magoha also directed the principals to admit all the students allotted in their institutions, including those students who have not paid the full school fees.
