The Teacher Service Commission of Kenya (TSC) has developed new job grades for teachers under the Career Progress Guidelines (CPG).
Currently, some job groups have been canceled and others have merged due to TSC upgrading of teachers. Under the new system of grading tutors, the grade formerly known as P1, which was under Job Group G, was abolished and replaced with Grade B5.
The above grades were designated as new entry grades for all teachers at primary school level.
Now Secondary Teachers II are teachers in secondary schools having grade C2 (formerly K; Grade C2 is the entry grade for secondary school teachers who have a bachelor’s degree in education or its equivalent).
The above job group is a promotional grade for diploma holders in education. These tutors receive a monthly basic salary of 34,955-49,694 shillings.
At the same time, a number of senior teachers in primary schools who are in the job group C5 will receive a proposed salary increase of 64,631 shillings, an increase of 17,000 shillings. At the moment, they are earning 47896 shillings per month.
In addition, senior teachers in secondary schools earn 157,656 shillings. An increase of 40,000 shillings. Earlier they were earning 115163 shillings.
Basic salaries for these teachers are paid based on where they work. Teachers working in Nairobi receive slightly higher housing allowances than teachers working in rural schools.
At the same time all these tutors earn the same amount of commuter allowance; Which is 5,000 shillings
