All those Students who have stayed on campus for too long will be deregistered at the University of Nairobi (UoN). The procedure was set to begin on March 20th of this year.
Following a recent CAMPUSTICA report, Ministry of Education and stakeholders are concerned about the increasing number of students who overstay their welcome on campus.
The University of Nairobi, Kenyatta University, Moi University, Technical University of Kenya, and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology were among the universities most affected (JKUAT).
With these reports, the government opted to reduce funding for these pupils, putting a pressure on the already cash-strapped education system.
The University of Newcastle has taken steps to eject these students who have overstayed their welcome.
Mr.Julius Ongeng’o, the University of Nairobi’s deputy vice-chancellor for academic affairs, indicated that students who had been expelled or discontinued would be affected in a document released .
Affected category of students include:
✓ students on deferment,
✓those who have been temporarily removed or suspended,
✓those who have failed to progress to the next level for unsatisfactory reasons.
Part of the memo to effect this reads, “Senate, at its meeting held on August 26, approved Guidelines for Student Progression, 2020, which were to be implemented with effect from September 2020… These guidelines provide for termination of students progression and deregistration,”
Any students who requires additional explanation, guidance, or information should contact their respective Deans, Directors of Graduate School, or the Academic Secretary of the university.
Also those who wish to be readmitted should write a letter to the Academic Registrar through their respective deans or directors.
However, this document is silent on whether or not people pursuing higher levels of education, such as doctorates, will be affected.
