A 46-year-old primary school teacher was arrested in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County, for allegedly defiling a class eight candidate.
The incident was reported to the Kiamutugu police station, where it was recorded under the number OB NO /11/21/10/2022.
Mr. Adward Ndirangu, the sub-county police chief of Gichugu, confirmed the arrest.
The officer asserts that the teacher lured the 15-year-old girl to his home, which is not far from his teaching station.
“Our investigations have shown that the suspect is also the pupil’s class teacher,” noted Officer Ndirangu – adding that the alleged incident happened on September 30, during lunch time.
Mr. Ndirangu added, “The suspect is being held at the Kiamutugu police station pending his court appearance on Tuesday.”
The girl’s mother revealed to Wananchi Reporting that her daughter confessed to the incident voluntarily.
“She told me that the teacher told her to swallow some two tablets before the act to avoid getting pregnant,” said the mother.
The girl was given medical attention at the Kiamutugu Health Centre.
The police chief of Gichugu has decried the increase in defilement cases in the region.
He advised the locals to report such incidents to the police rather than resolving them at home.
