A former member of the county assembly (MCA) was sentenced to four years in prison for forging his academic certificate.
Kiamwangi MCA Robert Kibe Githongo has been jailed for four years or fined Sh500,000 for forging the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education.
Senior Chief Magistrate Mr Peter Ooko allowed Githongo to pay a Sh500,000 fine on the first count of contravening Section 347 (a) of the Penal Code at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court.
Githongo is accused of forging KCSE S/No.625123 as a genuine certificate issued by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC). On this amount, the offender must be imprisoned for two years or pay a fine of Sh250,000,” he said.
The former member of county assembly was charged with holding forged documents contrary to Section 353 of the Penal Code and similar penalties.
The charge sheet states that on December 29, 2014, the term MCA at the Jommo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) produced forged documents claiming to be genuine certificates issued by the KNEC.
In July 2022, the same court arrested two employees of the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Company (Pauline Otieno and Lilian Ochieng) on charges of falsifying academic documents to obtain employment.
