A man sentenced to seven years for rape escaped from Migori GK prison. Boniface Maneno, 26, has disappeared under unknown circumstances.
He was working with other inmates outside the jail building Tuesday night, said Corporal Jared Ogeto, who reported the incident.
A Migori court sentenced him to seven years in prison on October 6 after he was found guilty of raping a woman.
The incident is being investigated, Migori District Police Commander Mark Wanjala told The Nation.
“He has not been found so far, but we are working round the clock to trace him,” he said.
Four years ago, an inmate involved in a violent robbery escaped from the same prison. He went over the fence and disappeared into the nearby bushes.
