Technical and Vocational Education and Training Principal Secretary Margaret Mwakima said the government has authorized the recruitment of 3,000 technical and vocational education (TVET) trainers across the country.
Speaking at the 17th Eldoret Polytechnic graduation ceremony, Dr. Mwakima said the move would help the shortage of trainers currently facing TVET colleges.
We have already got approval to recruit 3,000 trainees and now we are going to close the gap of 6,500 trainees,” she said.
“Our TVET institutions are constrained to focus on recurring budgets rather than development projects because they are contracted by councils or councils linked to trainers.
She continued: “We believe that most TVET institutions can use the records that we distribute to them for development and tools to ensure that our teachers are qualified.”
He said his government had recently started promoting TVET trainers and introduced a new job category that would benefit more trainers.
Dr Mwakima said the government is ready to provide financial assistance to TVET institutions for infrastructure development. It will also continue to provide advanced technology to strengthen government institutions, she said.
“I encourage organizations to engage in more profitable activities to be financially sustainable, because they have resources and tools that can be profitable if used properly.”
In addition, PS encourages the graduates to use the knowledge and skills needed to create work opportunities for themselves and other young people.
