Eight people were killed and four others injured in a mass shooting at a birthday party in Gqeberha, South Africa’s Eastern Cape Province.
According to police, two unidentified gunmen randomly shot at guests who were dancing at a house party in the town of Kwazakhele.
No arrests have been made, but an investigation is underway.
The number of dead and injured is not immediately known, but the police said that the owner of the house that was attacked was also present.
“This victim a were murdered by criminals and we will not rest until we know what happened and who is responsible for this bloody and cold-blooded attack on the alleged victims, ” said Eastern Cape Police Commissioner.
Police Minister Bheki Cele visited the scene of the shooting on Monday and asked for patience while the investigation continues.
“We know everyone is upset and we want to respond quickly, but we need some space to do this properly,” Gqeberha, formerly known as Port Elizabeth, told reporters random mass shootings in South Africa are rare.
Last year, the country saw several shootings at isolated arenas that left more than 20 people dead. That shooting is still under investigation.
