The 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations have shown a marked improvement in performance, with male candidates outperforming girls in most subjects.
According to Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, who announced the results on January 8, male candidates had higher average marks in ten subjects, while female candidates scored better in five.
Kabarak High School and Kapsabet Boys High School were among the schools that received a mean score of 10 or above with 10.4 and 10.2 respectively.
Kabarak High School had 62 students with A scores, while 155 achieved A minus (A-) scores. 102 students got B+, 60 B, 18 B- and four C+.
Other schools with a mean grade of 10 included Mudasa Academy in Vihiga County (10.4) and Light Academy in Mombasa County (10.2).
Segero Adventist School in Trans Nzoia County scored a mean of 9.9 in the 2023 tests, making it one of the top performing schools.
Baricho Secondary School in Kirinyaga County has a mean score of 9.2, with more than 400 students receiving a university entry grade of C+ and above.
Other schools with a mean score of 9 included Starehe Boys Center (9.5), Friends School Kamusinga (9.3), Lugulu Girls High School (9.3), Kagumo High School (9.3), Butula Boys High School ( 9.2) and Butere Girls High School (9.1).
The mean score at Bunyore Girls High School in Vihiga District was 9.1, followed by Lenana School (9.0) and St Francis Rang’ala (9.0).
Kisii School (8.95), Makueni Boys High School (8.91), Precious Blood Riruta (8.8), St Mary’s Girls Igonji (8.8) and Nanyuki Boys (8.8) all received a mean score of 8.
Other schools in this category included St Peter’s Boys Mumias High School (8.5), Agoro Sare Boys High School (8.5), Nyabururu Girls National School (8.4), Baringo High School (8.3), Chavakali High School (8.1) and Kaaga Girls High School (8.1).
Sironga National School, Ikuu Boys High School, Kyeni Girls High School and Kenyatta High School Mwatate all had an average grade point average of 8.0.
