The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has released the list of teachers who were successfully promoted following interviews conducted in December and January.
The 724-page list was published on the TSC website and contains only the TSC numbers of teachers and numbers of used advertisements.
36,505 successful teachers will be issued promotion letters and will have to submit five documents as per chapter six.
Below are five documents that are mandatory under Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya on “Leadership and Integrity”.
1. A valid certificate of good conduct from the Directorate for Criminal Investigation (DCI) costs 1,050.-
2. A Certificate of Approval from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) is free
3. A tax certificate from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) is free
4. The investigation by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is free
5. Approval certificate from an approved Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) costs 2,200/-
Unsuccessful teachers will be sent letters of regret to serve as proof of their participation in the interview.
The source revealed that teachers promoted to administrative positions, especially deputy and principal positions, will be placed outside their sub-counties but within the county.
However, those promoted to senior teaching positions will be placed in schools with vacancies in their sub-counties.
Those in acting positions and endorsements will remain at the schools where they have been active for years.
In September of last year, the Commission advertised a total of 36,505 vacancies for primary and secondary school teachers.
Interviews for primary school teachers took place from 4 to 15 December 2023.
Interviews of secondary school teachers and lecturers of the Teacher Training College (TTC) took place from 3 to 16 January 2024.
Many teachers were disappointed after TSC released the list of successful ones. Most say the promotions were unfair.
This is after it emerged that very junior teachers have been promoted while their senior teachers who have served for many years have been kept.
TSC also revealed that it is in the process of promoting an additional 6,000 primary school teachers through deployment to junior schools.
Commission has advertised 6000 posts for placement for primary school teachers with secondary education to apply online by 18th March 2024.
TSC plans to promote PTE teachers by sending them to the junior secondary school section at the beginning of next term.
The commission has asked teachers who are qualified to apply by March 18.
