In Usenge Boys High School, the matter is gaining momentum after a fight between the principal and the teachers over several issues.
The Citizen Weekly reports that parents are losing patience with Mr Daniel Mirumbe and accusing him of messing with the school since he took over from Mr Daniel Wasambo in 2019.
The parents have not only accused him of being abusive towards them, but also of them. playing with school funds
The angry parents told Citizen Weekly that the principal is patronized by some influential board members, who have been allowing them to dupe the parents out of their hard-earned money. Along with this, he has been taking irrational decisions including adding school fees.
He says he has been good at planning to make money even after education. CS Professor George Magoha has warned schools against charging parents extra school fees. This comes at a time when the performance of the school in the national examinations is declining.
The latest decision to demand at least five thousand Kenyan shillings from each parent has not gone down well with most of them.
Some are now threatening to take their children back from school. The money is going to ‘build’ a new hostel for those of the form who are set to join later this year. The parents know that this is another money-making plan by the school’s boss.
It is learned that in August last year, the parents were called to a meeting and each were asked to pay three thousand Kenyan shillings for the construction of 26 toilets. On completion, the toilets appeared crooked and were not worthy of the amount raised by them.
They were not even given receipts to show how much money they had actually spent on the construction of the toilet. Parents have also complained that the school no longer buys exercise books for the students.
This happens despite the fact that they are paying for the practice books in the school fees. The parents now want the principal to be investigated with multiple agencies already looking into their case.
