There was drama and chaos at Kayole North Primary School in Nairobi County after parents and students demonstrated against exorbitant school fees by the management.
Police officers arrived on time and dispersed the angry parents who set fire to the streets, disrupting transport in the area. The school was immediately closed until further notice to give way for a check on excess fees.
Parents complained that despite the fact that the school is public, they are forced to pay 3,500 Kenyan shillings for projects, remedial classes and lunch. The parents also said that there is no water in the school and that their children usually carry heavy jerrycans every morning.
