The girl students of Pemwai Girls High School have been sent home after the school remained closed indefinitely due to the uproar by the students. The students protested after the mysterious death of one of their own.
A Form II student, she died on Sunday, February 13, forcing her classmates to walk more than five kilometers in the night to protest her death, to a nearby centre, which they claimed was the result of negligence.
According to NTV, the student complained of chest pain, but the administration refused to allow her to seek medical help.
After protests by the students, the school administration allowed the closure of the school indefinitely while the situation was resolved.
The students were joined by a group of parents who reprimanded the school administration for ignoring the deceased even after showing signs of illness.
The students narrated how the deceased, Faith Karoni, was bleeding from the nose all night when the administration refused to allow her to seek medical attention.
They claimed that the school was not paying attention to them whenever they asked for help, Karoni’s death put them out of their comfort.
“One can be ill for a month and nothing is done about it. We are mourning our beloved sister,” said one of the students.
The investigation into the incident has been started.
