To promote inclusive and sustainable national growth, create better jobs and improve living standards, the new government has formulated a strategic development plan for the education sector that is relevant and timely.
The new administration has established a high level of per capita income, with UNDP data showing rapid economic growth in many countries, including Japan, Finland, Sweden, Canada, Singapore, Brazil, China and South Korea, due to the implementation of a profitable strategic plan. education sector; significant degree of industrialization; a diversified export base and a financial sector that blends with the global financial system.
These countries rely on a comprehensive analysis of the education sector as a basis for formulating education policies and strategic development plans. Education has been found to increase human productivity, creativity, and promote entrepreneurship and technological advancement.
Article 53.1(b) of the Constitution guarantees the right of every child to free and compulsory primary education. It is the government’s responsibility to provide quality basic education to every child. Furthermore, Section 39(c) of the Basic Education Act states that children belonging to marginal, vulnerable or disadvantaged groups shall not be discriminated against or prevented from receiving quality education.
The implementation of Competency-Based Education (CBC) is discriminatory and violates the Basic Law and the Basic Education Law. Because most of the cost of sending children to school according to the CBC is unaffordable for families.
Additionally, if most parents cannot afford school supplies for their children, teachers do not have access to school supplies. In addition, teachers are not sufficiently trained to manage the CBC lesson and conduct the lesson satisfactorily. The new curriculum is aimed at children of affluent classes because they have easy access to learning materials.
Unfortunately, the ministry misinformed the public that the government has provided textbooks for all subjects to all primary schools; that all schools are provided with ICT equipment; He said, all schools are equipped with two laptops, projectors, external servers, tablets and more than 85 percent of schools are connected to electricity.
Because the Ministry of Education has held conferences and lectures on the implementation of CBC and because the task force of Prof. Fatuma Chege has not achieved much, the task force to review the education system should consider introducing mainstream education – a widely accepted concept. identify and develop skills, competencies, and critical thinking skills to solve real-world problems, as well as equip students with life skills that will help them succeed in a rapidly changing world. Holistic education is cheaper, less involved, and more relevant to the areas CBC is trying to address.
