Dagoretti High School in Nairobi County was closed indefinitely on Monday after unrest among students, authorities said.
At least 11 students were admitted to various hospitals after the brawl that rocked the school on Sunday night.
Officials said the closure was to ensure the safety of students in general. During the incident, students vandalized and damaged property before the administration decided to send them home.
On Monday, additional police officers were deployed to the school following a fight between two groups of students at the institution.
Police said at least 11 students were injured during a fight over a basketball game they were attending.
The incident happened on Sunday evening, but it escalated overnight and became religious. The groups used sticks and stones to attack each other in the chaos.
Police said they found the students were playing basketball at the school when an argument broke out between two first- and fourth-graders. This led to clashes between Sudanese students and Kenyan students.
As a result, 11 Sudanese students suffered minor injuries and were taken to the Garden Medical Clinic in stable condition.
Police said more chaos was reported Sunday night, which has now turned religious.
More police officers have been deployed to the area to help stop the violence.
