According to Garissa Township MP, the state is planning to cancel KCSE on a large scale in the northern counties following a statement issued last week by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation.
According to the statement released by the DCI, three northern counties, Garissa, Wajir and Mandera, were identified as hotspot areas in the exam fraud.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigation listed counties designated as hotspots for exam leaks following the results of a forensic exam conducted on mobile phone students who were arrested.
Four candidates were arrested on March 20 for their alleged involvement in the exam leak.
Aden Duale said that he engaged in examination malpractice on the pretext of canceling the examination. He said that as leaders of the northern region, they would not ignore such efforts.
He further added that they are eagerly watching and expecting the KCSE result to be released before they can take any step.
“We know that the DCI statement issued last week was to prepare us to cancel the KCSE results of our children,” Duale said. But, we are informing the state and cabinet secretary for education that we will challenge such acts in a court of law, he said.
The Legislature for Garissa Township said they did not understand why the Kenya National Examinations Council would target the area and yet top officials, security officials, supervisors and observers were taking the exam.
After the announcement made by the DCI last week, the students who appeared for the recently concluded national examination and their parents are worried, not knowing when the result will be released.
