Addressing reporters during the Principal Forum held in Mombasa, Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association President Indumuli Kahi said that candidates who give birth during the national examinations should be given sufficient time to recover before sitting back in the examinations. The principal urges the government to give time to the candidates to recover from pregnancy and childbirth.
They commend the government for an inclusive setting that allows pregnant candidates to learn and continue their national exams.
On the other hand they feel that it is very unfair for the candidates who give birth during the national examinations and they have to give their exams immediately after the process.
He says that national exams are a matter of life and death and he can come back later to finish the exam after he is completely fit mentally and physically. If the doctor prescribes admission for the child, the student should be put on bed rest.
Mr. Indumuli Kahi urged the Kenya National Council of Examinations (KNEC) to take the matter seriously and consider it.
