Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha has revealed that the government will prioritize bursaries and scholarships for KCPE 2021 candidates joining boarding schools.
When he announced the Form Ones appointment on Monday, April 11, Magoha urged Members of Parliament to ensure fairness in the process of allocation of funds.
He said a section of unscrupulous politicians pocketed some of the bursary money for day-secondary students.
Referring to this, Magoha said that his ministry would advocate for bursaries and scholarships for students attending boarding schools.
The government pays the school fees for each child in one day secondary school, so if you are going to give a lot of money to such candidates, that money may go into your pocket.
We are going to advise you to give scholarship only to those kids who are going to boarding schools because the only thing which scholars need is school uniform and lunch money. In my case I left a lot of money for lunch, but does that reflect?” he posed.
Announcing the placement of over 1.2 million students in secondary schools, the CS said the form ones will report on Tuesday, May 3, 2022.
He said that a total of 38,797 KCPE candidates were admitted in the national schools. In addition, over 12, 000 candidates were placed in secondary schools as part of the government’s 100 percent transition programme.
