Some of people who are participating in temporary IEBC Jobs are teachers. Teachers had applied for various positions such as presiding Officers, deputy presiding Officers and clerks.
Election dates is drawing nearer with only six days remaining to the actual election day and the electoral body is busy putting all the preparations in order.
The deputy presiding Officers received messages urging them to attend a four days training which started on Sunday until Wednesday. The clerks training is also commencing on Friday and end on Monday according to IEBC.
Teachers service commission had earlier given a stiff warning to teachers who would abscond duties to attend IEBC training or any other political gathering. Through a circular that was going through social media platforms teachers were supposed to stay at school to help students with their studies.
However, the education cabinet secretary professor George Magoha on Monday August 1, 2022 ordered that all schools to be closed by Tuesday 2, August 2022 with immediate effect. Through a statement Magoha ordered that all schools should proceed for a mid term break starting on 2nd August until 11th August this year to allow preparation of August 9 general elections.
He also said that the schools will resume on 12th August to finish the remaining part of term two. Although this came as a surprise to many including the parents, it is good news to those teacher participating in the IEBC Jobs. Since now the schools will be closed they have all the time to attend the training and also participate in conducting the general elections.
The announcement by George Magoha supersedes the earlier announcement by the ministry that the schools were supposed to break for mid term break on Friday 5, August 2022 and resume on 16, August 2022 which disadvantaged those teachers participating in IEBC jobs.
