Government through MoE has re-opened its schools after a week break. The education ministry is allowing learners in Grade 4, Standard 8 and Form 4 to go back to school, as parents wait to hear when other classes will resume.
“We are back, but the Covid-19 protocols must be followed,” said Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha on a tour of schools in Kibra in Nairobi after casting his vote.
Schools have been closed since last week when the ministry announced closure within only 24 hours.
However all schools will be required to strictly adhere to containment protocols and guidelines, among them mandatory use of face masks, monitoring of body temperature and observance of high levels of hygiene as was done previously.
The government now announces a phased resumption of school-based learning, starting with Grade Four and Standard Eight pupils and Form Four students.
Schools will finally open from Monday next week, ending days of confusion and uncertainty on the resumption of studies amid concerns of unsatisfactory safety measures to protect children’s right to education.
There will be no mandatory testing for teachers and learners before the reopening of schools despite the ever-increasing interaction among people due to political campaigns.
