Experts now want the junior secondary to be changed to senior primary even as the Ministry of Education appears to be struggling to figure out how the CBC curriculum can be implemented successfully without hitches or lapses
According to the experts, to ease the congestion that is chocking our secondary schools currently even before the double intake next year January, the junior secondary school be changed to senior primary and domiciled in primary schools.
The pupils will occupy the classrooms that were meant for class seven and class eight pupils. By this the congestion in secondary schools will be eased. There are more classrooms in primary compared to secondary schools.
By renaming Junior Secondary School to Senior Primary School the pupils will comfortably move into classrooms meant for the current Class Seven and Eight learners.
The chairman Kenya Secondary School Headteachers Association and secretary general Kenya National Union of Teachers are of the opinion that government should think of merging primary and secondary schools that can co-host and run Junior Secondary Schools.
Under the proposed arrangement, primary schools would be used as host institutions while secondary schools would be responsible of deploying and managing Junior Secondary teachers.
With the fact that there are more primary schools than secondary schools, if the government adopt the proposal of utilizing both primary and secondary schools, the issue of inadequate infrastructure in schools to host junior secondary will be effectively addressed.
