Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha on Monday, August 22, launched the upgraded version of the National Education Management Information System (NEMIS) that will allow seamless navigation.
The CS argues that the system has been updated to accommodate parents, teachers, and school administrators. It now performs a variety of tasks, including managing school infrastructures, monitoring student performance, and managing school transfers.
The Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) is still being implemented, and it is starting to take shape as Grade 6 students prepare for their final exams at the end of 2022. The learners will be able to enroll in junior secondary school after passing the national exam.
“The system introduces lots of benefits to our users including but not limited to, the on-boarding of new and improved processes from different directorates for instance learner transfers, school registration.
The system also looks to refine already existing system processes such as capitation management processes. With its upgraded server infrastructure and improved system architecture, the system serves to strengthen the user experience of our users,” Prof. Magoha said in a statement
How to Navigate The Upgraded System
Parents will be able to request transfers for their kids across schools, claims Prof. Magoha.
By relieving parents, school heads and principals, together with the directors of education, from having to manually apply the transfer process in the past, this will assure the effectiveness of the learner transfer process.
Additionally, parents will be able to log in to the NEMIS website and submit applications for scholarships and bursaries on behalf of their children.
How To Access NEMIS portal
You will be required to register as a new user by visiting the NEMIS website via nemis.education.go.ke – Details required will be user name, gender, ID number, title or position held, responsibilities, email address, and mobile number.
After which you will be required to enter new password to complete the registration exercise.
By signing up, parents will also be able to monitor their children’s performance remotely at the comfort of your living room or office.
With the integration of the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC), learner performance monitoring will be a real-time process, providing parents with a better reflection of their children’ academic progress.
Finally, parents will always get an accurate depiction of their kids’ academic performance.
Only Grade 3 students may apply for the Age-Based pathway or Foundation and Intermediate students may apply for the Stage-Based pathway.
The technology has also made it easier for head teachers to manage their infrastructure projects, which will help the Ministry of Education.
Institutions in NEMIS will also be connected to geospatial data, assisting in project planning and monitoring efforts.
