The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has revealed that over 15,000 students who took their secondary education certificate in Kenya in 2021 and achieved an average grade of C + and above will not be placed at any university.
According to KUCCPS, the over 15,000 2021 KCSE candidates will miss out on university slots allocations because they ignored making applications for placement into the universities.
The body has made it clear that those who have not applied for university placements will be barred from obtaining government sponsorships and scholarships through various funding bodies such as the Higher Education Loans Boards (HELB) which is responsible for the identification and funding of students in need to help them acquire higher education.
Of the 144,000 KCSE 2021 candidates who achieved the minimum grade of C + and therefore legible to enter universities, only about 128,000 had submitted online application for examination by the employment agency by the end of the third review exercise.
The fate of 15,754 candidates is not yet known to the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement body and therefore the placement service will not be able to place them in any university.
After giving students the opportunity to select their preferred career choices and having permission to review the same .KUCCPS should publish the results of the internship by July.
This will allow students to have the time to properly prepare for their studies and to remain in the universities both financially and psychologically.
Successfully placed candidates will need to join universities starting in September 2021 for their first semester. These students can receive government sponsorship through The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) to fund their studies.
After receiving the University Admission Letters, potential applicants can now access the HELB websites as they will be opened for them and apply for the Higher Education Support Fund.
