The embezzlement of school funds has been going on in Kenya for some time now.
Kenyan public secondary schools have been the most affected. This is due to the fact that they receive more funding than other institutions and most of them are boarding schools.
Running a boarding school in Kenya requires a lot of cash. The headmaster and bursar of the secondary school are plotting to siphon off extra cash and more from the accounts of the school.
They are using this money to fund their lavish lifestyle at the expense of their schools. They have been using this money to buy luxurious houses, expensive vehicles and even to give money to their mistresses.
Citizen Weekly reports that it has already caught the eye of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and that several principals of one county have already been summoned.
Many headmasters of Nyeri are visiting offices with their bursors to clear their names. They are recording statements about the loot of school funds.
It has also emerged that there are massive transfers in the county and that many underperforming education officers are being transferred to other counties.
A former principal of Giakanja Secondary in the county has reportedly already been indicted by TSC on corruption charges during service at its new station in the Rift Valley.
This action means more headmasters are in hot soup and anyone found guilty is facing the prospect of interference.
