Teachers employer (TSC)has stated that a total of 186,744 teachers are now set to receive higher salaries Begining July this year as part of the implementation of the Second Phase of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) signed between their unions and the Teachers Service Commission.
Among the beneficiaries are those on the lower grades of the teaching service at Job Groups H (128,047 teachers), J (15,140 teachers) and K (43,557
In the development, TSC Has Finally Identified over 186000 officers Who Will Receive enhanced Pay Beginning July 2022.
The Sole beneficiaries in this arrangement are mostly tutors serving in primary schools awaiting the approval of eighteen billion shillings Budget presented by their employer TSC before Parliament that will give a greenlight to the hike.
On the wake of a detailed budget proposal of eighteen billion shillings,tabled before parliament, Education Committee reveals that part of this money will be utilized in the implementation of a 54 billion shillings collective bargaining agreement that will run for a period of four years concluding in 2025.
In the above proposed deal, the primary school officers at Grade B5.who are currently drawing Shs19,224 per month will rise to Shs21,756 starting July this year. This category of beneficiaries can draw up to a maximum of Shs27,195 in basic salaries under this new proposal.
In addition to this, those in Grade C1 who currently take home Shs.25,929 currently,will take home Shs.27,195 in basic salaries in the new arrangement.
The above group of tutors can earn up to a ceiling of Shs33,994 over the years.Likewise, their counterparts at Grade C2 who currently receive Shs32,988 will have their perks scaled up to earn Shs34,955.
While speaking before the Committee, the TSC CEO DR. Nancy Macharia reiterated that the implementation of the CBA that would benefit over 300,000 teachers under its employment was a consideration and asked the legislators to push for the approval of the funds to facilitate peace in the education sector industrially.
The TSC also sought five billion shillings to hire 12,000 additional teachers to address the looming teacher crisis.
The Commission revealed that they have an estimated shortage of approximately 40,972 teachers in primary schools and 63,849 in secondary schools taking the cumulative shortage tally to 104,000 teachers.
