On Thursday morning, 200 additional early-year learning instructors received employment letters from the County Government of Nyandarua, increasing the total number of teachers employed on permanent and pension terms to 581.
When the new work program was introduced in May, the first batch of 381 instructors received their letters, bringing the teacher-to-student ratio down from 1:60 to 1:40.
The cost of salaries and benefits for new Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers adds about Sh250 million to the county’s annual pay bill.
A new curriculum that adheres to the requirements of the Competency-Based Curriculum is part of this new recruiting of the teachers, who have also received letters of deployment (CBC).
Francis Kimemia, the governor of Nyandarua, gave the Human Resources division specific instructions in the letters to make sure that teachers had complete support as they implement the new curriculum.
