The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) 2021 examinations began on Monday amid several cases of examination malpractice in at least 6 centers across the country.
Rare cases of impersonation were seen, despite Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha’s tough stance on exam misconduct.
Police in Matayos, Busia County, are troubled by George Barasa, a 26-year-old man who attempted to sit an English paper on behalf of his father, Josephat Barasa, 42, at Our Lady of Mercy Girls’ Secondary School. The accused is in police custody for arrest.
A similar impersonation was observed in a county where 20-year-old Brian Angwenyi, a third-year university student, is being investigated over claims of impersonating a KCSE candidate whose whereabouts are unknown.
OCPD Kisii central Peter Kimani said, “Nyamweya ndo amergeister kama private student, ako kwa ofisi ya CID anandika statements kesho afikishwe kortini.”
Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha disclosed that three supervisors were involved in examination malpractice, cases reported at Airport View School in Garissa, Garbatula in Isiolo, Humanist Secondary School in Mbita Homabay County.
Two students were caught with mobile phones at exam centers in Nairobi.
“Pretending to help a child is stupid , you just confuse them. For anyone trying to take pictures of exams, give examples of these three…,” Magoha said.
In Baringo County, KCSE examinations began smoothly amid the insecurity in the region in recent weeks
The government has deployed 20 National Police Reserves in Baringo North to assist police teams in restoring peace during the exam period.
