The Ministry of Education issued the Diploma in Basic Teacher Education (DPTE) and the Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DETCE).
*Below are the updated entry requirements for the TTC Diploma in Primary and Early Childhood Teacher Education in Kenya.*
*Minimum entry requirements for DPTE.*
1. Diploma for primary teachers, Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, KCSE or equivalent grade C
Candidates must have C in the following cluster subjects.
I. English and Kiswahili;
ii. Mathematics;
iii. Humanities,
iv. A science.
2. Candidates with disabilities must have a minimum entry grade of C- (Minus) in KCSE and C- (Minus) in the subject group mentioned above.
3. Duration of Study: DPTE will be studied for three (3) years according to the approved curriculum.
4. Diploma teachers will cover the recommended hours of lectures, required hours of practice and conduct assessments as directed by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
5. Teacher trainers must undergo a three-month micro-training course
*Entry requirements for DECTE*
1. Grade average in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or equivalent (compared to Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC)).
2. Candidates with disabilities are accepted with C- (Minus) grade in KCSE or equivalent.
3. The course will last for three (3) years.
4. The teacher will study ALL the subjects in the DECTE curriculum.
5. The trainer will undergo a three (3) month Micro Teaching Course.
To obtain the Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE), teacher trainees must complete the required course hours and pass an assessment prescribed by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
Candidates must demonstrate adherence to positive moral values and good behavior such as the School Leaving Certificate.
