In Kenya, the Teacher Service Commission is the body that is selected and is responsible for the recruitment and recruitment of teachers.
According to the TSC guidelines, newly appointed vocational secondary school teachers in Kenya fall under Job Group K which is the starting point currently known as Secondary Teacher II or Grade C2.
The trained teacher of the secondary school is immediately involved by the teacher service communication, the teacher receives an appointment letter which always states that the newly appointed teacher is on probation for a period of at least six (6) months.
Probation can sometimes be extended if the teacher’s performance is not satisfactory.
As per the current status in TSC Secondary School, the teacher is on duty for 3 years after which he is automatically promoted to C3 grade, initially known as Job Group L.
The minimum requirement for teaching in secondary school is diploma but nowadays most of the secondary school teachers are university graduates.
Any newly employed graduate teacher is now entitled to an initial salary of KSH.38000.
However it should be noted that this figure varies if one gets the benefit of HELB loan as some amount is deducted.
With the newly employed teachers under (grade C2 ) initially known as job group K a part from their basic salaries also enjoy commuter allowance of KSH 5000 and rental house allowance of KSH 7500.

1 .Basic Salary ksh.34,955
2 . House Allowance ksh 7,500
3 .Commuter Allowanceksh. 5,000.
4 .Total Earnings (before deductions) KSH 47,455.
All the above salaries are also subject to other official statutory deductions which include:
a.Also there is the Childrens and widow’s Pension Scheme which is about Kshs. 699.10.
b.There is also University Loan Recovery of about Kshs. 5000.
c. The Others include those made to teachers’unions such as KNUT and KUPPET, KEWOTA, PAYE plus sacco savings.
