The Cabinet Secretary for Education, George Albert Omore Magoha has announced a new formula that will enable those students to get high marks in the recently issued Certificate of Elementary Education (KCPE) 2021 in the schools of their choice.
On Wednesday, March 30, Magoha said the selection process would be more uniform for all students.
According to Education CS affirmative action will be used to ensure that all national schools in the country have a national approach in terms of representation.
The new formula will put all the top students across the country into a single pool before teaching them to various national schools.
He explained that it is important to integrate students from different countries into different national schools to get a national perspective in the field of education.
Magoha also said that the parents will find out the fate of their children within the next two weeks.
“We will ensure that all Kenyan children are given equal, fair and just treatment, including those from slums and arid and semi-arid areas. We must ensure that this country has a positive be action.
“We’ll take all the kids’ scores, then we’ll get the best out of all those counties and place them in different national schools distributed across the country,” Magoha said.
However, he added that some students will miss out on the opportunity to attend national schools because they have chosen only one category of schools.
Students are expected to choose high schools at the district, county, extra-county, and national levels.
The change in KCPE candidate placements comes just days after Magoha announced that all students would be admitted to the high school.
Also, Magoha indicated that school sports would return when schools reopen. The CS said it is currently in consultation with appropriate stakeholders before resuming activities in both primary and secondary schools.
