Tsc to recruit more than 8,000 intern teachers immediately after term 3 closure
The Teaching Service Commission (TSC) has announced 8,000 internship Positions to improve the relationship between teachers and students.
TSC chief executive Nancy Macharia said once the school opens for the January 2023 academic year, they will fill vacancies that will see many transition to other classes and levels.
Macharia explained that the interns will be sent to junior high schools that have the majority of students. Currently, there is a shortage of 114,581 teachers in the country.
To facilitate the recruitment process, the CEO of TSC approved the release of Ksh1.2 billion from the National Treasury for the next academic year.
The TSC CEO said, “I want to assure you that the commission will immediately start work on the recruitment of teachers to inform them of their resignations and reduce the shortage of teachers in schools.”
Macharia explained that the commission has so far recruited 28,000 trainees since the government started funding the recruitment process in 2019.
Interested candidates will be directed by TSC on how and where to apply for positions
TSC also announced that 60,000 teachers were trained from April 25 this year. This course focused on strengthening their understanding of the Competency Based Curriculum CBC.
Macharia assured the state that the training will help teachers acquire the necessary skills and knowledge before the majority of junior high school students are admitted.
“The public must be confident that all our secondary school teachers [by January 2023] will be equipped to welcome secondary school students,” said Macharia.

More opportunities for teachers will be announced as 1,594 principals plan to retire in 2020 or 2021 but extend their contracts to avoid a leadership crisis caused by the retirement pandemic.
