TSC permanently blocks graduates from future employment.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has banned Kenyatta University graduates from taking up teaching jobs in the future.
When other teachers are interviewing for recruitment, this teacher’s story is different because his fate is already sealed.
After his university degree was rejected by TSC during several interviews, the graduate began working full-time.
He failed to get a job in many businesses despite having a TSC number from the teaching service.
Abraham Maina, a teacher by profession, graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education majoring in Geography and Mathematics.
Since then, he has taught in several management schools, including St. Joseph in Kiambu and Ruiru Girls High School under the Board of Management (BOM).
Maina also got his TSC number with the hope of becoming a civil servant, but his dream was not fulfilled.
The reality of unemployment became more apparent after being rejected for multiple job interviews without a degree.
Maina graduated from high school in 2002 with a B- in Mathematics and a C, but was unable to enter university due to her family’s poor financial situation.
A few years later, when hopefuls came forward and promised to sponsor him to get a degree, he got lucky, and he entered Kenyatta University and completed his second year.
However, a few years later, he was shocked to learn that he had to get at least a C+ in every subject to qualify as a teacher.
It was this inspiration that led Maina to become a teacher after losing hope of becoming a teacher despite her best efforts to secure a high school education.
The decline began when the pandemic put pressure on the 38-year-old graduate, who had a family to take care of his boat.
His closed dreams reigned after the disaster today as Maina called on the government to intervene and bail him out of the dire situation.
He called on the authorities to investigate why the university allowed him to study a program that did not suit him and why he enrolled at TSC and then went back and rejected his application.
July 2022 TSC Recruitment has announced these requirements for Secondary School Teacher Recruitment.
