The school administration at Friends School Kaimosi Girls has banned use of lipstick and makeup by its female staff in school compound as well as in out door school functions.
Violet Opata Oyungu, the use of lipstick and makeup especially by teachers has fueled indiscipline cases among the school girls.
Opata says the school girls have become unruly applying lipstick and makeup on regular basis and pointing fingers at teachers as their mentors.
“I write to inform you that we are finding it difficult to correct some students in our school over (use of lipstick and makeup). They are pointing us as the ones leading them into this,” says Opata in a memo addressed to female staff.
The Principal says the use of lipstick and makeup is banned and female teachers should strive to be good role models instead of misleading the students.
“I therefore ask that from the date of this letter no female staff should use lipstick or eye makeup while on duty in school and while with students out for any school function,” she further says in the memo dated 2/6/2022.
However the female teachers have protested against this ban saying the school head has overstepped her mandate and wont allow her to treat them as school kids.
Some mocked the Principal as being jealousy and envious especially that they can afford a comfortable outlook yet they are in lower job group.
According to Code of Regulations for Teachers (CORT), teachers are required to dress in a respectable manner.
