Some parents of Ambira Secondary School have accused Principal Joseph Otieno of refusing to pay students food arrears and school fees.
But Otieno refused.
Parents and the community reported that students with outstanding tuition fees for the second term were denied meals.
The indictment states that the student was not allowed to enter the classroom and was not sent home.
Jane’s parents, not her real name, told the digital hotline that she visited the school after receiving heartbreaking news that their child was starving.
“Our children called home to inform us that they did not attend class, were not fed and were not allowed to go home,” he said.
He reported that Otieno had earlier threatened to carry out his intentions on the school’s WhatsApp group, but his parents remained modest.
Jane, who traveled from Busia County, said: “I saw students lying in the dirty playground, they have not eaten.”
He said the school cafeteria is only open from 5:00 p.m. to serve only bread and soda.
Jane, on his part, said that the institution had paid his dues through his Payment Account number, but the children were hungry like everyone else.
Another parent, who did not want to be named, said he received a terrifying phone call from his son on Friday night.
His son told him and his friends that he hid under a tree despite the heavy rain after being dismissed from school and could not return.
However, Ambira’s principal denied the allegations that everything went well: “Students had breakfast, lunch and dinner. Nothing… not even a quarter was sent home because of school fees,” said Otieno.
He said that the students participated in the ball game and won; It’s not like a player who hasn’t eaten yet.
“They beat the World School 5:0, the others 4:0 and now we are in the final. I told the parents who came to the school that they have to pay, but their children go to school.
Education CS George Magoha has ordered schools not to send students who do not pay school fees home.
Speaking at Mbaga Girls School on July 16, Magoha said all schools in the country will have capital funds in their accounts by Monday July 18 at the latest.
He said, with the CS fund, administrators must run the school well without stopping education.
