Nicole Chemutai Serem, a sophomore at Strathmore University, was identified by police.
“We didn’t find any farewell notes on her,” Lang’ata police chief Mwanthi said. Serem was reported missing by her classmates on Friday 3 June.
On Sunday, police officers and the caretaker of the hostel Serem had rented broke into her room and discovered her body.
“Her body was not physically injured,” Mwanthi said. Serem’s body was taken to the city morgue for an autopsy.
This comes at a time when police are investigating an incident in which a woman was found dead in a bar in the Kasarani area of Nairobi.
Witnesses told police that the woman, identified only as Njeri, was in the company of two men at the bar before they left her sitting there.
It wasn’t until several hours later that the hotel management realized that she had not moved from her seat and, upon further investigation, they determined that she was not responding.
The body was transported to the morgue in preparation for identification and an autopsy. No arrests have been made so far.

Additionally, police are looking for a group of bodaboda horsemen who stabbed a man to death during an argument in the slums of Mathare in Nairobi. Morgan Njuguna, 22, was stabbed and died in hospital following the altercation. Witnesses say they argued for unknown reasons before Saturday night’s incident turned into fatal fighting and stabbing.
