A teacher died on the spot while eight school children and a school principal sustained serious injuries after two private school buses collided. The accident involved two school buses, one belonging to Kutus Municipality Primary School in Mwea and the other belonging to Trinity academy in Kagio. The buses collided during the morning rush while taking pupils to school.
The incident was witnessed by a woman identified as Grace. She said the driver of one school bus lost control when he overtook another bus that was picking up a pupil.
An eyewitness said that people who were around tried their best to save the learner. Good Samaritans took the pupils who sustained injuries to various hospitals in Kirinyaga District.
Kanini, an eyewitness, said police officers from Baricho and Sagana police station joined the residents to rescue the victims. After about an hour’s struggle to save the teacher, who was trapped in one of the buses, the struggle was not worth it. It was unfortunate because the teacher had already left.
According to the police, the headmistress of Trinity Academy Kagio was taken to the Kagio Nursing Home with serious injuries where she was admitted and treated. Eight pupils who had serious injuries are admitted to Kerugoya Hospital.
For the teacher who died on the spot, her body was taken to Kerugoya Hospital mortuary where it awaited postmortem.
A teacher was killed in a collision between two buses and students were injured in the accident. However, the two buses were towed from the accident site to the Sagana Police Station, awaiting inspection by the NTSA.
