The University of Nairobi community is in mourning following the untimely death of one of its lectures, Samuel Owino Mwanda, who died on Thursday, September 19.
Mwanda was found dead at his residence in Karachuonyo sub-county, Homa Bay.
His body was discovered hanging from a tree, raising suspicions of a possible suicide. One of his employees arrived at the scene of the tragic event and quickly alerted the villagers and the local authorities.
Reports indicate that the incident happened just hours after Mwanda arrived from Nairobi.
Witnesses said he shared a meal with his employees that evening, preparing for a return trip to Nairobi later that night.
Homa Bay County Police Commander Hassan Barua confirmed the sequence of events and added that the professor spent the last hours with his staff.
Investigations into the circumstances of his death are ongoing.
