Police in Rachuonyo East Sub-county of Homa Bay County have launched an investigation into the mysterious death of a form Three student.
Elvis Odhiambo, a student of Kowidi Mixed Secondary School, was allegedly attacked by panga at a disco matanga in a village in Nyakach sub-county in Kisumu County on Sunday.
The boy from Kodhoch West, Rachuonyo East Sub-County was allegedly attacked by unknown persons.
It is not yet clear what sparked the violence.
Kodhoch West location chief Charles Dete said the boy suffered serious head and stomach injuries. The attackers dumped him near a health center in Rachuonyo East district.
He continued to suffer severe injuries in various parts of his body, including his head and abdomen. The attackers dropped him near a health facility. “He could still talk at that point,” he said.
According to the administrator, the boy was spotted by a good Samaritan who took him to the Kabondo Sub-county Hospital and called his relatives.
The boy’s condition was critical and doctors referred him to Homa Bay County Hospital for specialized treatment. However, he was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
“Efforts were made to transfer the boy to a local private hospital, but his condition kept worsening. We believe he died before reaching the hospital,” Dete said, adding that they are in contact with the police on the matter.
He warned residents of the area not to visit discotheques as they are illegal. The body was moved to the Okita mortuary in Rachuonyo East Sub County.
