Five members of a family died in an accident in the Mbaruk area along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway.
The five include a woman and her four children, all sons.
The accident occurred at 7am when a Mercedes car driven by a man identified as Christopher Ambani was heading to Nakuru.
Police believe the five killed are members of the Ambani family.
The truck was headed for Nairobi.
Gigil area OCPD Jamlek Ngaruiya says the driver of the Mercedes was overtaking which led to the head-on collision.
“The woman and children died on the spot while Ambani was taken to St Joseph Hospital where he was admitted,” the OCPD said.
“We visited the crime scene and took the bodies to the mortuary in Nakuru,” he said.
According to the truck driver, Morris Wahome, the passenger car was traveling at high speed.
“Hi gari ilikua spidi sana na ilikua imeovertake nikamhepa. Sasa akakuja pahali niko hapa kando ya barabara; huku kwa nyasi (The car was going at a high speed. The driver was overtaking at such a high speed and forcing me to avoid the collision he drove towards the roadside but ended up in my direction),” he said.
” Pole sana kwa familia (I feel sorry to the family).”
He said he was heading to Nairobi while a private car was traveling in the opposite direction.
