The ambassador died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Doha, Qatar, according to his family, who confirmed his death on Monday, April 4.
He had suffered a stroke when he was taken ill.
Following the death of his predecessor Peter Owiti, Ahenda served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Kabondo Kasipul from 2005 to 2007.
After a thorough investigation process in parliament, President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed Ahenda as the head of the Qatar High Commission in October 2018.
When he appeared before the panel in August 2018, there were several questions about his qualifications, with some claiming that he lacked the required academic credentials.
However, the politician claimed at the time that he had extensive experience as a sales manager and was well prepared to handle the responsibilities of the office.
After reports emerged that Qatar had rejected the envoy, which Doha rejected, his appointment became a matter of debate.
The embassy responded at the time, “The embassy requests that respected newspapers and all other online news platforms that broadcast the above unverified news do due diligence and verify their stories before they are published.”
