An MCA candidate has been confirmed dead after an unidentified attack on Sunday night at Bombaba Borabu in Bomachoge Borabu constituency of Kisii county.
Thomas Ontweka (pictured above) was seeking a position on the ticket of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party in the August elections.
Confirming the incident, area chief Henry Magato said the attack was suspected to be politically motivated.
The aspirant succumbed to his injuries at Oasis Hospital in Kisii.
Duke Manga Echate, a former county culture and sports minister and Bomachoge Borabu MP aspirant, condemned the act and demanded justice for the deceased.
“I want to condemn in the strongest terms the heinous act done on my brother Thomas, commonly known as Sandona. Bombaba Borabu MCA Aspirant was attacked by unknown people and in just 2 days for nomination was beaten to death.
Sandona has been a staunch ODM supporter of the region. We will do justice to our late brother! RIP” said Manga
Kisii musician come politician Naftal Omari Migisi aka Miggy Champion, who oversees the neighboring Magenche Ward MCA seat, also praised Ontweka’s death.
“I am speechless – Bomachoge is not one of our own Thomas Ontweka of Borabu. The MCA candidate for Bombaba Borabu ward was attacked at his house last night at 2 p.m. ……just 2 days to enroll. Amabera oka .rest in power best friend.” Miggy wrote on his Facebook page.
