Police in Kisumu have begun an investigation into the murder of a Maseno University student.
According to the Maseno police report, the deceased were in the company of a colleague when they were attacked on their way from a nightclub to a hostel.
The other student is said to have fled only to realize that his colleague had not slept in his cube.
Kisumu police commander Alphose Peter, who confirmed the incident, said the morning search was launched after he failed to trace him through his mobile phone, where he was attacked.
The commander said that the body was shifted to the morgue of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital while awaiting postmortem and had injuries on its head.
Students have complained of insecurity in the area in the past and the police have assured that they have beefed up security and increased surveillance in the area.
